Teaching

Welcome to my studio! Teaching piano is one of my great loves; I’ve been doing it for over a decade and I still never fail to draw inspiration and delight from working with my students. I believe in taking a well-rounded approach that centers curiosity and fosters creative exploration. Music can be so many different things to different people, and it’s important both to honor what moves my students and to help them explore potential new interests. While studying piano can be about becoming an amazing musician, it can also – particularly for my younger learners – simply be about learning how to learn. Developing the habit of practice, putting sustained work into something you care about, and feeling the gratification of accomplishment are experiences that boost confidence and extend well beyond the world of the piano bench.

My own background includes an MM from USC, where I studied performance and pedagogy. I welcome students of all ages and abilities, children and adults! (Though I am not a specialist in early music education, and younger than about five years of age, there are other folks I can direct you to for the best experience). I currently have two modes of teaching. My preferred is in-person lessons in the student’s home, for those located on the west side of Los Angeles. The second is online lessons, though these are more appropriate for older children or adults; I find young beginners benefit tremendously from being in the same physical space and not trying to concentrate on a small screen.
